I recently visited Berlin to ferret about their flea markets and get inspired! Zille Hof was our first stop at 10am on the Friday morning. It's not really a flea market more an overgrown junk yard, but I think the owner Elna must be a Virgo (just like me!) as all the house clearance goodies are in neat organised rows and piles. Elna directs customers from inside her warm cosy cabin which is also stuffed full of jewellery, clocks and shoe boxes full of odd trinkets - I think they're all her favourite bits. So don't be scared to go in, if only to coo over the rows of long vintage necklaces which are a bit tangled but cool and quirky. The pictures below show the fantastic arrow sign which stands above the entrance, I think it might light up at night and the spooky (red lipped, grey faced) mannequin who greets you as you walk in.
There are 3 main arches to choose from - the first houses records and clothing. I found the clothing rails pushed too close together and couldn't really be bothered to prise them apart. Instead, I enjoyed looking at the 1950s printed record folders and magazine racks hanging from the ceiling. The second arch was tightly packed with ornate trophy and drinks cabinets displaying books, dolls, old perfume bottles, china, glasses and an assortment of bizarre bric-a-brac. A highlight for me was looking through the family photo albums from the 1970s - great haircuts. Pictured below are some of my purchases, I'm looking forward to turning the mini vintage perfume bottles into necklaces!
Furniture can be found in the third arch and there were more fun objects outside in the courtyard piled high on meccano type shelving. I trawled through tubs full of buttons, scarves, vintage craft supplies and ancient handmade christmas decorations. I adore the way Elna groups items together - I was spellbound by the rack of brightly coloured, patterned 1970s saucepans. As a lot of items are stored outdoors they are a bit the worse for wear, but our visit was definitely fun and inspiring - I enjoyed digging deep for my treasures.

Hey,
Glad your enjoying my Ebay sale. I don't have anymore pop art charms to add at the moment, but will be holding another Ebay sale in the Autumn. Until then, my Spring sale will continue until June 1st and I'll be adding more items in a few days. This will include alphabet beads, printed vintage scarves, a kooky AVON bag and more...x
Zille Hoff looks fantastic, just reading about it makes me drool... one day!
Leona, a while back you had a leopard print plastic bow neclace on the site and i was just wondering whether you had one left over you'd be willing to sell? it appears i have a calling for one, and well, i thought it was worth asking x
I've just had the best birthday present from my boyfriend ever... The Tumbling Dice earring! I love it so much, your jewels are so damn cool. :)
Thanks for the tip off - Sounds like a real treasure trove! - I especially like the look if the necklaces you bought - so unique! And that shelf is truly sagging with all those pots and pans!!
Hey, i was just wondering how, Leona, you make things into earrings, like how do u attach the hooks?
Keep up the good work! im gona hav to start savin for sum more stuff! xx
hey,
Laura - The charms are attached to the hooks by 'jump rings' which are little silver circles that open with a pair of pliers and grip the cute little charm to it's new home - either chain or a fish hook. They come in all kinds of sizes and can be purchased in little packets from your local craft store!
Zoe - I sold out of the leopard print bows (sorry!) they were a flea market find so I can do no more. Rest assure tho if I ever come across anything like them again you'll be the first to know!
Lx
Thankyou! ill go on a 'jump ring' finding mission! :) xx
im a virgo 2! yay! im addicted 2 ur site!! hav u ever thought about making handbags!?! xxxx
Zille Hof looks and sounds absolutely fab! You are one lucky lady (no pun intended) for getting to visit all these fantastic places. Its a shame you didnt rummage through tha clothes though, imagine tha finds!
Lorna xXx
p.s. Im eager to start making my own jewelerry with cute little charms and that but to be honest I have no idea where to start. I mean I have a few charms that are worthy for a necklace or a pair of earrings but I dont really know how to go about it. Please pass on your wisdom!
