Phewee...I'm kinda glad last night is over and done with. My friend and I did our first seminar "How to sell your goodies online" at the Fashion and Textile museum. There was a super turnout and I met some lovely LLROK customers. I must say though, when I first started talking I thought my heart was gonna beat its way out of my chest! I was so nervous. I think it went really well in the end. I told my story about how and why I started selling online, the mistakes I made along the way (and how I fixed them) finishing up with what has made it a success and the impact it's had on my daily life. We then gave out some juicy tips and super suggestions. The feedback at the end was all positive and we then went and celebrated down the pub!

I have sent more trinkets to Champion the cool'n'crafty New Zealand website. I caught up with the lovely lady behind the scenes Amanda Wheeler and asked her a few q's...

Tell me your inspiration behind the site...
It came about because I knew that there were crafters here whose crafts and design needed to get out past their neighbours/cousin/coworker. Most of the consignment stores are overseas and full of overseas stuff. I wanted to create a place that was more focused on crafts down this end of the world but was also a New Zealand outlet for people who wanted to sell more stuff down here - postage, currency conversion, delays etc can be such a barrier and I wanted to smooth both ways!

What else fills your days?
Right now I'm very into beading, and have been for quite awhile. I have a huge collection of beads and like to let the beads dictate the outcomes of what I create. Conversely, before I started getting serious about craft I mostly wrote and produced various zine and lofi artbook projects - and maybe
I'll have another on the go soon. My day job is to project manage website development - so you can see how craft + web evolved into a logical decision to have an online
store. I believe in using the technology!

Why do you heart New Zealand?
New Zealand is an incredibly beautiful country full of inspiring, passionate people. There are so many shades of light and dark here - it's a very NZ aesthetic here that you just don't get anywhere else in
the world. I love travelling but I am always so glad to come back here. It's definitely home.

Tell us about the craft/fashion scene in NZ...
Much like New Zealand, it's very unique. Our best known designers who 'exhibit' on the world stage are indicative of the high fashion ethos, and at the other end of the scale there's a lot of Maori and Pacific
Island and streetwear going on - hoodies, iconic historical stuff...it's very NZ. The craft scene is slowly taking off. New Zealand usually takes a bit longer to really click on to things but when we do, we come out guns a blazin'.

When I opened my little LLROK package today I was expecting a cute little pink stereo pin, but not an adorable postcard, little badge and super cute pink bubble wrap!
Thanks Leona, your stuff is beautiful and you've made my day!

This might seem like an odd question, but I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of drill you use for putting tiny holes into things to make into jewellery? Is it possible to buy a special crafter's drill? Or is it just an ordinary kind with a teeny-weeny attachment?! I'm guessing that you're an expert at it! Any help would be appreciated, thanks Liz xx

Hello Leona,
I would like to thank you for your seminar on Wednesday. I found it really well presented and very helpful. I came to the seminar as a first step towards honing my interests into an idea of what I would like to do. Although it wasn't aimed at someone in my situation, I found it inspiring and it introduced me to what will hopefully be very useful future selling advice. And you have also introduced me to zip, which is great as I am very interested in textiles and wasn't quite sure where to go for short courses/evening courses etc. Thank you very much indeed, I thought it was really brilliant.
Best wishes, Aimée

Hey Emma! The crazy crayons are sold as single earrings or necklaces (not pairs) - this is stated in the item description and in the "available options" check box. Hope you have fun wearing it! Thanks, leona
