Everyone at Lady Luck Rules OK was in full on jing-a-ling festive mode last weekend at the Super Christmas Market at Somerset House. We were given a whole room to play with which we decided to turn into a fun filled snow frenzy of games, prizes and pop rocker jewellery! This year the entrance to the market was through the newly opened Embankment Art Galleries which is behind the ice rink on the Victoria Embankment. Alas we were a little tucked away but an old Japanese friend of mine used to say the best things are always a little hard to find thus always the more special when you discover them!

The main room was simple and tasteful with a wonderful selection of designers showcasing one or two products on neat white benches. In the corner of the main room stood our 8ft candy cane beckoning those who were a little more playful at heart to come hither into our snowy wonderland of fun and games.

Upon turning the corner stood the lovely Juliana in head to toe festive finery including the biggest door knocker decoration which she'd brought to me in the morning asking if I could turn it into a necklace. I obliged with great joy! Juliana handed out free LLROK tote bags to the first 50 through the doors on the Friday night. She also ensured everyone had a FREE spin of the festive wheel which decided if a person was "ho ho ho" or "humbug" this Christmas and handed out the stickers to prove it.

Once into the room there were lots of things to buy, make and win! "Dipping" and "throwing" were the main activities. Our snow filled lucky dip was super popular with most gals seemingly feeling very lucky and having multiple dips, whilst small children were being picked up, turned upside down and literally dunked into the tub. Upon realising we had 100 unused white balloons and nearly a full tank of helium Aline created the balloon portrait area. We were also making jewellery to order from our Personalise it! collection and selling all our goodies from Superette and the website.

My favourite part of the snow extravaganza was Frosty's Bar! It was a game Sam and I devised over dinner at the newly opened Luncheonette at All Stars on Brick Lane. The main aim of the game was to "Stop Frosty making another Snowball" by knocking at least four of the ingredients to make the snowball off of Frosty's Bar using 5 giant pom pom snowballs. Oh and to make it a little harder wearing an oversized pair of ice blue mittens! Ha ha! The prize? A Jewel-POP bow necklace! Yay! Sam designed and made Frosty, his totally trashy bar and the ingredient targets. Aline, Sophie and Zohra made the giant pom poms and the smaller versions for us to wear as snowball headbands with our heart motif stripy aprons.

Kandy Diamond joined us for the weekend and she sold her natty D.I.Y kits including a pom pom beret kit and button bracelet kit both specially designed for the event and in the crafts corner she hosted a super "paper" chain challenge. The aim of the challenge was to knit a paperchain style garland making it as long as possible by the end of the Market on Sunday. We were joined by many eager little elves over the weekend who either knitted or crocheted a little loop to add on and in the quieter moments we all helped. The photo above is Jen teaching Laura how to knit. Even Sam had a go. Unfortunately I have to admit I did not add to the chain...I went to the Craft Rocks night at the V&A a few years ago where I discovered I have absolutely no ability to knit whatsoever.

It was such a swell (but utterly exhausting) weekend! I wanna thank all the lovely gals 'n' guy who helped us make Frosty's vision come true - Sam, Laura, Aline, Sophie, Kandy, Jen, Zohra, Penni, Juliana and Tunmike. You all worked so, so hard. I just hope none of you have hit the bottle due to a snowy wonderland related stress disorder... til next year xxx

Our fave oversea's gal mag BUST came to town last weekend and hosted one of their infamous all-day-and-all-night Christmas Craftaculars! It was held in the homely and nostalgic St Aloysius Hall in Euston - the very place Sam and I met over 6 years ago. Word filtered through that there was a huge queue of excited Christmas shoppers forming outside and after a hiccup with the floor plan we had only 20 minutes to get our stalls up and ready for business!

All the vendors scurried to their tables and got to work in double quick time with crafty monsters springing out of suitcases and a huge Christmas tree was decorated with yarn. Pamflet zine's Phoebe Fangoul hopped onto the decks and started playing a host of vintage Christmas tunes to get us in the mood. Then that was it Vikki from BUST called out she was opening the doors and in came a tidal wave of Christmas shoppers and boy were they ready to shop! Yippee!

We were making our personalised necklaces at our stand including the Russian Doll, Goth Doll, all the Tattoo Parlour designs and our festive special the Rockin' Horse. We also took along our new collection of Jewel-POP necklaces and some little stocking fillers from Superette.

It was really lovely to see so many other ace vendors! Our friend Kandy Diamond (pictured above) had traveled down with her stash of super fun handmade knits. I love the knitted paperchain decorations!

We were also delighted to find Amy Lamé there with her Pom Pom International stand.

The music throughout the day and night was amazing! Pictured above is one of the Shellac Sisters who DJ 1920s vinyl from gramophones and all whilst knitting. How bloody cute is that!? To end the evening were my favourite trio of ladies the Vinyl Vendettas (pictured below) ladies you rock!

We really hope BUST come to town again next year so we can do it all over again. I've popped some more photos on Flickr, check 'em out click here!

Lady Luck Rules OK will be making it’s West End debut at the Urban Outfitters store in Covent Garden on Thursday 27th November. Our Pop-Up Tattoo Parlour will open for business from 5pm when our tattoo artist Chloe Pye will be skillfully drawing personalised tattoo stickers on the arms of everyone in the room! Our boudoir gals will be handing out a limited number of the first ever Lady Luck Rules OK discount cards and offering advice on what to choose for your tattoo!

There will be a free bar, nibbles and goodie bags for early birdies and Benefit Cosmetics will be doing free make overs. Plus we’ll all be boppin’ and a shoppin’ to the hip sounds of the Young and Lost Club Record label DJs.
Does it sound like fun? Hell yeah! So why don’t you join us anytime between 5pm and 10pm!

Sam and I spent last Friday night in a closed-to-the-public Tate Britain! No we weren’t trying our hand at fine art robbery we were setting up our Loud Tate stand. Being surrounded by priceless paintings meant we couldn’t use an electric drill, spray mount or any of the other mod cons we rely upon at events. So with the aid of a vintage hand drill and a Pritt Stick we began the slow process of creating our booth in the middle of the Hogarth room. We called it a night at 11-ish and then wandered through Tate Britain looking at all the paintings like our very own private view. It was pretty darn amazing.

We were back early the next morning and although Loud Tate wasn’t due to start until 12 noon the museum opens earlier so from 11am onwards we were surrounded by a jewellery hungry crowd buzzing with excitement! We managed to hold them off until midday and then in a crazy thirty minute whirlwind all 100 order forms were filled in and Lady Luck Rules OK was SOLD OUT! Sam and I set to work printing up the wooden shapes ready for everyone to come back in the afternoon and make their charms into a unique piece of jewellery.

We had baskets full of chains, ribbons, rainbow cord, mobile phone findings and earrings hooks so the lucky few who arrived early enough to order their free name charm could make it into their very own creative masterpiece!

Other activities on the day included Metronomy playing live; the Ruffs'n'Cuffs room was full to the brim with people making giant tudor inspired accessories and then having their photograph taken in a giant gold frame; DJ in a box which at the beginning of the day was a large white box, by the end of the day had been covered with graffitti along to the sounds of Dollop DJs. There was also t-shirt printing and badge making and secret performances happening all around the gallery.

Everyone started to filter back into our room after the Metronomy gig and our room was once again a crazy rush of creative activity with jump rings pinging around the room! We were so busy we only managed to snap a few of our customers which is a shame. Check out our Flickr page for more snaps, click here! We all had such fun and I want to say a massive thank you to the Tate forum volunteers who helped out on our stand for the day you ladies were ace! And of course our very own Laura and ace intern Jo you girls were super! We'll be launching this new collection of Artist's 'tools of the trade' statement necklaces this Friday! Yes, Friday..oh-oh...I'd better get sanding!

Last Thursday was the big night – the Dolls’ Night Out party at the Barbican Art gallery. Everyone was super excited and we’d spent the week making bits ‘n’ pieces for our stand like a giant Russian Doll and customising our wheel o’ fortune into a Goth ‘n’ Doll spin the wheel. On the day we squeezed all our stuff into a cab and upon arrival at the gallery we had to ferry our belongings through the Viktor and Rolf exhibition and still to this day it’s the only time I have actually been inside the space and it looked AMAZING. Must go back. The Viva Cake gals had already arrived in the Garden Room and set out all the tables with the most incredible collection of vintage crockery, embroidered tablecloths, packs of playing cards and dominoes. They were now making reams and reams of bunting and icing hundreds of pretty little cakes.

It didn’t take us too long to set up - we had already sewn our gingham table cloths and just had to pack our lucky dip fun bags for winners of the goth’n’doll wheel o’fortune. I set up all the equipment and since we had just done the V&A Village Fete there were no dramas and we were rockin’ and rollin’ in no time. The doors were flung open at 6.30pm and crowds of tea and cake hungry dolls scurried in and snapped up their seats at the pretty tables. The fancy waitresses started pouring tea and delivering treat laden cake stands and it wasn’t too long before we took our first order for a Russian doll name necklace. Yay!

There were a few other stalls on the night including B’s beauty bar where you could get a dolly make over and Byzy’s tarot card reading table. The Baron of Piccadilly played rock’n’roll sounds all night and the ace band Smoky Angle Shades played a live set – after ordering their name necklaces with us of course! Our stand was amazingly busy all evening it was so much fun and we were wowed by how much everyone dressed up for the occasion. There were oodles of giant bows including our new blue bow aprons which Karin and Faye our super cute interns had designed and handmade for us.

Some partygoers went one step further and came in full on costume, throughout the evening I spotted a traditional oriental doll, a toy soldier, little bow peep and her farmer beau and a sailorette couple with matching rosy cheeks. Just as the evening was drawing to a close a group of real life Russian dolls arrived, they were fantastic! The girls were in fact from Nina’s Hair Parlour which is the UK’s first vintage hair dressing salon in Alfie’s Antiques market.

Betsy took so many photos on the night so we decided to set up a Flickr account. Click here to check ‘em out!

Last weekend felt like summer had officially arrived as the Lady Luck Rules OK gang descended upon the glorious Victoria and Albert museum for two days of good old fashioned Village Fete fun! We had spent a long gruelling week building a giant punch and judy style stand to house our bespoke jewellery making equipment as the event was due to take place outdoors in the John Madejski Garden. Weather reports all week had said it was going to rain and maybe even thunder storms. But did we need to worry? Oh no! Why it was the hottest weekend of the year so far, hurrah!

We arrived at the museum nice and early on the Friday morning and with the aid of porters and trolleys wheeled our stuff THROUGH the museum and into the garden which as it turned out was the first of a series of terrifying moments. Sam immediately started to assemble the stand, Hana and Amy whipped out the sewing machine to make up the gingham fabric into table cloths, Laura made the signs, Penni prepped the stock and I prepared the equipment and started testing. HOLD ON! The electricity hadn't been switched on yet...and we were informed the floor plan stated we weren't down as needing electricity! OK OK, I'd brought a picnic so we all sat down and cracked open the hamper whilst men in blue uniforms scurried around trying to wire us up. After lunch we were back on track, running a little behind mind but it was all systems go... Going through my mind in a big way was this was the first time we had ever taken our custom making equipment OUT of the studio, was it going to work?

The event was due to open at 6pm and news was working its way around the stands that an enormous queue had started to form outside the museum and I had *just* started testing the machine (there were a few hiccups) but we were soon rockin and rollin, phew-ee! Then the flood gates opened and boom we didn't stop all evening. We made hundreds of personalised necklaces (rosettes, anchors, swallows and hearts) and with each purchase the customer had a complimentary spin on our wheel of fortune, if they landed on "yes", "wow", "yay" or "win" they won a jewellery filled lucky dip but if they landed on "oops", "boo", "pah", "lose" then they were given a limited edition Lady Luck Loser badge! We had such a long list of necklaces to make at one stage our turn around time peaked at 1 hour but with so many other activities going on customers scooted off for fun and games and came back to collect at the end of the evening!

The Friday night flew past in a blur so we were looking forward to the Saturday so we could flit about the fete and play some games and take a look at the stalls! I'd had my eye on the "brooch the subject" stand where you get to smash a vintage piece of crockery and make the remains into a brooch; I wanted to help a chicken flap to freedom; getting a fake criminal record looked like serious fun; helium karaoke was next on the list and I definitely wanted to win a flat pack kitty by guessing who was in the hutch....forget it! We were even MORE busier on the Saturday and I didn't once get to leave our booth. Oh well, Laura scooted around to take these photos and we all scooped up a POP tote bag to commemorate the occasion.

Thanks to everyone who visited our stand, it was so much fun, a little fraught at times making sure we got all the jewellery made but it was worth it every time we saw the delight on a customers' face when we gave them their necklace! If you didn't make it down this year we hope to see you next year we already have an ACE stall panned...
