Let me introduce you to Lady Luck's most far away stockist - Helen Howard’s fun fashion boutique Modern Love all the way over in beautiful New Zealand. Most of us in the UK will probably never get the chance to visit in person but hey we can all drool from a far! Helen opens the door and lets us into her wacky world...
Tell us all about the wild lady behind the scenes!
I am a 25 year old gal who has lived all my life in little old New Zealand. I have lived in the capital, Wellington from the age of 17. Wellington is a fab city with a lot going on in terms of music and the arts etc. I had worked in various corporate jobs for banks and governments departments with a year or so break to live and work hostessing and teaching English in Tokyo (which is my fav city EVER) I am also heavily involved in an 80's dance troupe called The Real Hot Bitches (my 'bitching' name is Molly Moonshine - we are SO hot right now). And I have a lovely bf called Anton, but I won't go on about him!
How did Modern Love come about?
I was never into the corporate thing, so quit my job and opened Modern Love. I have had a lot of help from my friend Claire who is a jeweller and owns her wee store only 2 doors up from mine. I would also like to thank my banker Nathan Green for being nice to a poor girl with no assets like me! haha

I truly heart your logo - 2 of my favourite things! Did you design it?
I didn't design my logo but I have a good friend called Jason Lingard who is currently based in Melbourne. He is a very talented young lad, illustration and graphic design wise, so I emailed him and told him I needed a logo for Modern Love. The first logo he sent back was the same as it is now, but had a bird on it...but I'm more of a fawn person so I asked for a fawn and that was that really! I get compliments about it all the time...I absolutely love it, he couldn't have done a better job!
The cupcakes at your opening party look super cute! Who's the fancy baker?
The bakers of my cupcakes were a lovely team of ladies called 'Cupcakes of Delight' They are all members of the Real Hot Bitches hence why I was able to get a special deal especially for my shop opening (They taste as good as they look!)
What's next for Modern Love?
I am constantly researching new labels and designers so am hoping to move into a bigger store at some stage so I can stock all the ones I love. I only have 3 racks at the moment, so it is somewhat limiting. I am hoping to possibly move into a larger and more 'pedestrian friendly' store maybe at the end of this year. I am currently designing my own trashy jewellery under the label 'Modern Love' including ghetto blaster necklaces and barbie inspired earrings.

Modern Love loves: rainbows, fawns, thunderbolts, cassettes, cherries, stars, skulls, bats, leopards, 80's kitsch, ceramic animals, vintage bags and sunglasses, wee badges, roses, leopar0d print, hearts, ghetto blasters, spots, stars, music, and YOU!
