We've been invited back to Somerset House this Christmas for the third year in a row to take part in the Super Christmas Market which is brimming with the best up and coming design talent from across London. With just a few shopping days left til the big day come and join us for some ice skating, mulled wine and gift buying. We will again be curating one of the rooms involved with the market and will let you know all of the details very soon!

Everyone at Lady Luck Rules OK was in full on jing-a-ling festive mode last weekend at the Super Christmas Market at Somerset House. We were given a whole room to play with which we decided to turn into a fun filled snow frenzy of games, prizes and pop rocker jewellery! This year the entrance to the market was through the newly opened Embankment Art Galleries which is behind the ice rink on the Victoria Embankment. Alas we were a little tucked away but an old Japanese friend of mine used to say the best things are always a little hard to find thus always the more special when you discover them!

The main room was simple and tasteful with a wonderful selection of designers showcasing one or two products on neat white benches. In the corner of the main room stood our 8ft candy cane beckoning those who were a little more playful at heart to come hither into our snowy wonderland of fun and games.

Upon turning the corner stood the lovely Juliana in head to toe festive finery including the biggest door knocker decoration which she'd brought to me in the morning asking if I could turn it into a necklace. I obliged with great joy! Juliana handed out free LLROK tote bags to the first 50 through the doors on the Friday night. She also ensured everyone had a FREE spin of the festive wheel which decided if a person was "ho ho ho" or "humbug" this Christmas and handed out the stickers to prove it.

Once into the room there were lots of things to buy, make and win! "Dipping" and "throwing" were the main activities. Our snow filled lucky dip was super popular with most gals seemingly feeling very lucky and having multiple dips, whilst small children were being picked up, turned upside down and literally dunked into the tub. Upon realising we had 100 unused white balloons and nearly a full tank of helium Aline created the balloon portrait area. We were also making jewellery to order from our Personalise it! collection and selling all our goodies from Superette and the website.

My favourite part of the snow extravaganza was Frosty's Bar! It was a game Sam and I devised over dinner at the newly opened Luncheonette at All Stars on Brick Lane. The main aim of the game was to "Stop Frosty making another Snowball" by knocking at least four of the ingredients to make the snowball off of Frosty's Bar using 5 giant pom pom snowballs. Oh and to make it a little harder wearing an oversized pair of ice blue mittens! Ha ha! The prize? A Jewel-POP bow necklace! Yay! Sam designed and made Frosty, his totally trashy bar and the ingredient targets. Aline, Sophie and Zohra made the giant pom poms and the smaller versions for us to wear as snowball headbands with our heart motif stripy aprons.

Kandy Diamond joined us for the weekend and she sold her natty D.I.Y kits including a pom pom beret kit and button bracelet kit both specially designed for the event and in the crafts corner she hosted a super "paper" chain challenge. The aim of the challenge was to knit a paperchain style garland making it as long as possible by the end of the Market on Sunday. We were joined by many eager little elves over the weekend who either knitted or crocheted a little loop to add on and in the quieter moments we all helped. The photo above is Jen teaching Laura how to knit. Even Sam had a go. Unfortunately I have to admit I did not add to the chain...I went to the Craft Rocks night at the V&A a few years ago where I discovered I have absolutely no ability to knit whatsoever.

It was such a swell (but utterly exhausting) weekend! I wanna thank all the lovely gals 'n' guy who helped us make Frosty's vision come true - Sam, Laura, Aline, Sophie, Kandy, Jen, Zohra, Penni, Juliana and Tunmike. You all worked so, so hard. I just hope none of you have hit the bottle due to a snowy wonderland related stress disorder... til next year xxx

Lady Luck Rules OK has been invited back to Somerset House to host a festive extravaganza at the Super Christmas Market (formerly the Design Grotto). Our room will be an exciting snow filled frenzy of games, prizes, crafts and pop rocker jewellery!
We have invited Kandy Diamond to host the craft area where you can learn to make some last minute stocking fillers! Another stall will be offering a while-u-wait service from our 'Personalise It!' collection which will officially be the last place you can buy something from our personalised collection before Christmas. Another stall will be selling goodies from our all new super fun jewel pop necklace collection. And we hope you'll step right up to the snowball throwing gallery to win limited edition Lady Luck Rules OK jewellery!
You'll find us in The Studio behind the ice rink along with other rooms filled with up and coming designers from across the capital selling unique gifts which will all be priced at £20 and under. The £2 entry fee to the Super Christmas Market also includes entrance to the Wouldn’t it be nice… exhibition in the adjoining Embankment Galleries.

We first met Vicky Simmons when she skipped into Superette one day to show us her "world's best stall" tote bags...we kept in touch and a few months ago she invited us to host a crafting room at the Design Grotto at Somerset House which she was organising for the first time with her partner in crime Jess Bentall. The Somerset House trust are also responsible for curating the amazingly popular Village Fete held at the V&A each year, so we were honoured and super excited to be involved.

The event was due to take place over a weekend in December and the venue was the Portico Rooms in Somerset House with balconies looking out over the Thames and ice rink. Our space was the Navy Boardroom which looked terrifyingly huge - at first we didn't know how we were going to fill it, along with the added difficulty that we couldn't attach anything to the walls or ceiling due to the historic nature of the building. Argh! But we rose to the challenge Lady Luck style and Sam set to work building an 8 foot candy cane as a centre piece for the room! After creating several mood boards for our space, we purchased a mountain of zingin felt and set to work making bunting, snow toppers for the tables and plush hanging decorations in the shapes of candy canes, buttons, bells, mushrooms, pencils and paintbrushes.

We then created four themed crafting tables - Badge-A-Rama; Build Your Own Kaleido-Crazy Charm Bracelet; Crackers Over You Wheel of Fortune and D.I.Y Winter Warmers all manned by the Lady Luck gang wearing festive red jumpers and huge snowball name badges. PLUS Lady Luck's Sparkle Pop Shop which sold the best selection of goodies from our Brick Lane store Superette. Over the other side of the room we set out 4 round tables with gingham table clothes for customers to sit at whilst they cracked open their craft kits and got down to some D.I.Y fun.

The whole event was stuffed full of festive fun with Santa at the decks playing a funny selection of christmas choons and the national elf service had sent down two of their best recruits to flyer around Somerset House to promote the day. Stall holders in the many other rooms included Beyond the Valley's "Ten Second Fondle", Mark Pawson's ace badge stall; a cheeky tombola where if you lost you received a beer (wah-hey); Donna Wilson's monster making workshop; Lie-ins and Tigers Parisian Portrait Gallery; Father Christmas' Grotto by If You Could; Gingerbread decorating; face painting rudolph the reindeer style and so much more...

We were delighted to see so many grotto go-ers getting into the spirit of a crafting Christmas! We saw oodles of customers wearing our customised ear muffs, gloves and vintage legwarmers skating around the ice rink. The wheel of fortune was spun many a time and crackers were going bang about the room and everyone was treating themselves to a handrawn badge. I don't think I've ever felt so darn Christmassy! Although I'm still not sure how we pulled it off, maybe because Sam stayed up til 5am the morning before putting down a third coat of paint on the candy cane the crazy guy and definitely due to all the hard work of the sparkle pop crew at Superette! A big ole thank you to Becky, Laura, Lydia, Leah, Penni and Diane. I think we're all ready for a long snooze in front of the telly after a turkey dinner and many a mince pie! Merry Christmas!
